Florence University of the Arts

Florence University of the Arts is located in one of the leading educational and cultural centers of Italy.  Its location offers students the intellectual and aesthetic stimulation, which fueled some of the greatest artists of Italy and the world.

As an urban institute, Florence University of the Arts is comprised of several buildings.  The school's main building, houses classrooms as well as the university’s administrative offices, and is located at Via Magliabechi 1, steps away from the Santa Croce Church (Basilica di Santa Croce).  The Renaissance building was once owned by the Doni family, patrons of the famed Michelangelo.  The room used as the "aula magna" (large meeting room) was once the Doni family master bedroom, where Michelangelo’s commissioned work was displayed.  The palazzo is large and provides an ideal setting for the studios, classrooms, administrative offices, internet facilities and library located within.

The Fresco Workshop will involve the student in hands-on technical work as well as discussions ranging from the chemical bases of restoration to the ethics of conservation. The Cuisine & Wines  part of the program will take the student to the heart of a centuries old ‘family firm’ of winemakers on one day and to the preparation and tasting of regional culinary specialties the next. In both the past and present in Italy are firmly linked. The Art History component of the course will concentrate on the Renaissance period; slide lectures will be supplemented by visits to museums, churches and palaces and students will gain a sure sense of how Italian creativity, in all the areas studied, is connected to trade, to business, to faith, to passion, to tried and tested traditions, as well as to a strong sense of civic pride and national and regional identity.
