- Orientation (Students will receive folder with maps, information on the city activities, orientation booklet, program schedule).
- Walking tour downtown Florence
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Afternoon free.
- Welcome dinner.

- Continental Breakfast – Hotel Cellai.
- Guided field trip to Siena. The emphasis will be on Medieval art and architecture and how art was an integral part of civic, religious and political life in Siena. Comparisons with Florence will be made. Visits to: Duomo and Piccolomini Library; Opera del Duomo Museum; Piazza del Campo and the Palazzo Pubblico.
- Lunch at Il Gallo Nero
- Free afternoon in Siena.
- Arrive in Florence.

- Continental Breakfast – Hotel Cellai .
- Lecture: Florence from Roman times to the Middle Ages: an historical and cultural introduction. Professor Marcello Bellini.
- Visit to the Duomo, Walking Tour to Orsanmichele, Piazza Signoria and Ponte Vecchio. The theme will be art & architecture as an expression of civic life and civic pride.
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Preparation of a meal which includes dishes from the periods presented in the lecture.
- Dinner consisting of the students’ own preparations

- Fresco Workshop: Introduction to Fresco Painting techniques as they were used in the Renaissance – from the preparatory drawings, laying on of the plaster, painting with powdered mineral pigments to the fresco detachment method. First class: the preliminary drawing.
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Visit to the on-going restoration of the 14th century frescoes of Agnolo Gaddi in the Church of Santa Croce.

- Continental Breakfast – Hotel Cellai.
- Field trip to Arezzo, visit the city’s Medieval Center (where the movie La Vita e’ Bella was filmed) and the Church of San Francesco with Piero della Francesca’s frescoes ‘The Finding of the True Cross’ considered to be one of the greatest fresco cycles in Renaissance art.
- Lunch in Arezzo.
- Afternoon visit to the small towns of Anghiari, and San Sepolcro , where other paintings by Piero della Francesca can be seen.
- Return to Florence.

- Fresco Workshop: Preparation of the sinopia (underdrawing). Practicing with pigments. Work begins on the fresco.
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Lecture: The culture of wine in Italy. Italian Wines by region and the Italian classification system. Wine appreciation and tasting of a selection of Italian wines.

- Lecture: Great Renaissance Sculptors from Ghiberti to Michelangelo.
- Visit to the Bargello Museum – sculptures by Ghiberti, Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo and others. The main themes will be: techniques of sculpture (bronze & marble); the nude figure in Renaissance sculpture.
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Visit to the Accademia Museum (Michelangelo’s David).

- Departure for Castello di Pomino.
- Pomino and Nipozzano both belong to the Frescobaldi Family. Diletta, our Professor will show you her properties, talk about her family history…It is a wonderful, unique opportunity to be led inside the Frescobaldi Doors guided by a family member!!!!
- Visit to the castle and cellars guided by Diletta Frescobaldi. Wine tasting.
- Departure for Nipozzano Castle. Visit to the castle and cellars.
- Lunch at the castle.
- Early afternoon return to Florence.

- Visit to the Uffizi Gallery. The main themes will be: influence of ancient art on Renaissance art, mythological subjects, collecting antiquities.

- Lecture: The Medici Dynasty.
- Visit to the Church of San Lorenzo and the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi. (Gozzoli frescoes in Chapel of the Magi). Theme: The Medici as patrons of art.
- Lunch at Apicius, via Guelfa 85.
- Visit to the Palazzo Vecchio. Theme: The Medici Granducal court.
- Lecture: Discovering the Italian regional heritage of Italy.
Preparation of a regional meal.
- Dinner consisting of students’ own preparations.

- Fresco Workshop. Fresco paintings will be brought to completion.

- Lecture: Importance of Olive Oil in Italian Culture and Diet.
- Preparation of a meal based on Olive Oil.
