About Us

The School of Professional Development offers post-baccalaureate credit programs at the masters and advanced graduate certificate levels, including non-credit offerings in career development and community outreach.

Students may choose from several master's degrees, including the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MA/LS), the Master of Arts in Teaching and the Master of Professional Studies. SPD also offers advanced graduate certificates in School District Leadership, Human Resource Management, and in other areas related to education and the workplace. Our graduate programs in education fully articulate with NY State DOE certification and licensing requirements.

Programs are either part-time or full-time and are offered on campus in the evening, off-campus in extension sites, through collaboration with Teacher Centers and School Districts, during the summer, on weekends, and through SPD Online. Students may take individual courses or the entire MA/LS online.

All of SPD’s programs are fully accredited and draw upon the superb academic resources of Stony Brook University, one of the top universities in the world. We welcome your interest and the opportunity to take advantage of Long Island’s most extensive range of degree programs for working adults. Please explore our website for more detailed information on program details and admission requirements. Or arrange to meet or speak with an academic advisor. Join our 20,000 graduates who have used an SPD degree or certificate as a stepping stone to a more rewarding career.
