Synchrotron-Based Infrared Microspectroscopy
Utilizing synchrotron radiation as an IR source for FTIR microspectroscopy (resulting in lower noise and greater spatial resolution than what can be obtained using standard glo-bar type sources) has opened up new areas and applications. A number of the laboratories above have collaborated with the IR beamlines at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Please see the following link for details:

In addition to synchrotron sources, other new methods for generating high intensity or short pulse infrared radiation are under development. This includes the use of Free-Electron Lasers (FEL). For information on the FEL at Jefferson National Laboratory, please go to the following link:
