I'm a postbacc. How much does my undergraduate record matter?
Your undergraduate record matters, but it is likely to play a much less important part in medical school admissions than your postbaccalaureate work. Here are a few pieces of advice.
- The further back in the past you did your undergraduate work, the less it will influence your application. Exceptions would occur in the case of very notable achievements or serious failures, but most people do not acquire such distinctions during their undergraduate years.
- The less natural science work that you have on your undergraduate transcript the less it will affect your path towards medical school.
- In all cases, it is a very good idea to have a good memory of what you did as an undergrad and to be able to explain both the triumphs and tragedies.
