Get Health Related Experience
What is going to happen when you apply to dental school, medical school or any other health professions school that interests you?
The admissions committee at the school is going to ask two questions about you:
1) Could this person survive the academic challenge of attending our school?
2) Would we want this person at our school?
The second question is important. It means that health professions schools want their students to be motivated, caring, compassionate, and sure of their career goal.
That is why you need health related experience. The more experience you have, the more strength you will have when you say, "I know I want to be a doctor (PA, PT, etc.) because I volunteered at a clinic every Saturday for three years." That sentence is a lot stronger than "I volunteered every Saturday at the clinic for three weeks." Isn't it?
There's more to it than that of course, but to get started, just follow these two basic rules:
1) NEVER let volunteering (or working at a part-time job) interfere with your studies.
2) Build up a good track record of health related experience..If you don't like the place you are volunteering at now, go someplace else.
