GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Manuscripts of up to 6,000 words can be accepted for publication. They should not be previously published, nor under consideration for publication elsewhere. We ask that authors observe the following basic guidelines:

• All text, including quotations and notes, should be double-spaced throughout.

• Following American convention, please reserve single quotation marks for quotations within quotations. For example: "For a long time Parisians ‘relieved themselves under a row of yews’ in the Tuileries; driven from there by the Swiss guards, they betook themselves to the banks of the Seine, which ‘is equally revolting to eye and nose’" (SEL,3).

• Quotations should be given in English, unless a specific translation is in question. Authors are responsible for checking all quotations and supplying complete references to existing English-language translations.

• Underline all book titles, foreign terms, and sections denoting author’s emphasis. Do not use italics. These will all be converted to italics in the published version.

Notes:

• All notes should be endnotes, and included in a separate disk file (see below). Endnote only the first citation of a source, otherwise use a parenthetical reference (example: (SEL, 3)).
• Do not use "Ibid." or "Op. Cit.".
• Be sure to provide a list of all Abbreviations used and incorporated into the main body of the text after first citation in the NOTES section. These should be listed in alphabetical order according to the list of abbreviations used.
• Initial citations should correspond to the following examples. Please give English-version, standard edition references wherever possible:
