This program is offered through the School of Continuing Education in collaboration with the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education and the Department of European Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.
The M.A.T. is designed to lead to New York State certification for teaching Italian in secondary school (grades 7-12). for more details click here.
The program leading to the Doctor of Arts in Foreign Languages provides advanced training for careers in teaching and international government and commerce. The interdisciplinary course of study consists of work in Italian language and literature and related field of competence such as second-language acquisition, language testing, and pedagogy. The program includes extensive teaching experience. The D.A. differs from the traditional Ph.D. in its professional training and its orientation toward classroom teaching, curriculum development, and practical application; it also differs from the Ed.D. and Ph.D. in Education in its strong disciplinary focus in addition to pedagogy. Students may register either full time or part time.
