Agnes Weiyun He received her education in China (B.A. in English, Beijing Foreign Languages Institute, 1985), Singapore (Diploma-in-Education, National Institute of Education, 1986), and the U.S. (M.A. in English as a Second Language, University of Arizona, 1988; Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, UCLA, 1993). Her research interests are centered on language use and language education. She has published extensively in the areas of discourse linguistics and educational linguistics. She is the author of Reconstructing Institutions: Language Use in Academic Counseling Encounters (Greenwood, 1998) and co-editor of Talking and Testing: Discourse Approaches to the Assessment of Oral Proficiency (John Benjamins, 1998).
Her current research focus is on (1) the learning of heritage language and culture, and (2) the development of patterns of emotion and discourse behavior of Chinese American children. Her research has been funded by the National Academy of Education and The Spencer Foundation.
