
Advising Certificate Course
This course is designed to enhance your overall knowledge of good academic advising practice at Stony Brook. For academic and student affairs professionals working in advising capacities, and those with any regular direct student contact, completion of this course will enhance your ability to have more thorough, purposeful and meaningful academic planning discussions with students you serve. Advising Linkage Initiative
The main objective is to provide the Undergraduate Program Directors, faculty and appropriate staff professionals direct access to an academic advisor in the Academic & Pre-Professional Advising Center to whom they can refer to clarify academic policies and procedures, academic concerns, and assist with academic situations outside the purview of the academic department. National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)
The NATIONAL ACADEMIC ADVISING
ASSOCIATION (NACADA) promotes and supports quality
academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the
educational development of students. NACADA provides a forum for
discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic
advising through numerous activities and publications. NACADA also
serves as an advocate for effective academic advising by providing a
Consultants Bureau, an Awards Program, and funding for Research
related to academic advising.
